This weeks words are from Immunology: Antibacterial AgentAntibiotic and Antiviral

Antibacterial Agent

Definition:

1) A synthetic or naturally occurring agent which can kill or inhibit growth of bacterial cells. 


Antibiotic  

Definition: 

1) Medicines that are effective against specific types of bacterium
2) An antibacterial agent derived from a natural source which can be given in pill, topical and injection form.

Types of antibiotics: Streptomycin, Amoxicillin, Penicillin, Clarithromycin, Ampicillin 

Antiviral 

Definition: 

1) Types of medicines that work against specific types of virus infections. However antiviral drugs do not kill or destroy viruses, they inhibit their growth and multiplication leaving the body's immune system to finish off the viral infection. 

Types of antibiotics: Tamiflu, Acyclovir, Inerferon, Penciclovir
